Hi all,

Just purchased the 212j yesterday. When I transfer the files from PC to 212j, the transfer rate is very slow, only 10MB/s, what went wrong? I already have an old 108j and the transfer rate is the same as 212j(about 10MB/s), it can not be right as I thought 212j will be a lot faster. Please help!

I am using all CAT6 LAN cables. Could it be the Router the bottleneck? My router is a few years old Belkin 150M router.

    If your router not support gigabit Ethernet, even you use cat6 all the way it still just 100mbps. From what you said, it seems that you are not running gigabit network

Thanks. Now it is even slower at 3-4MB/s transfer rate. I will get a gigabit router next week. Any good router to recommend? Anyway it seems strange that the transfer rate is at such low i.e. 100MB vs 10MB or 3-4MB/s.

    Fast Ethernet 100mbps is just 100/8=12.5MB/s megabyte in theory. This theoretical speed would never reached as there are overhead such as handshaking, parity, and packet headers of every layers of network protocols from network layer to application layer. Actual speed also highly depends on network quality especially collision (network congestion)

Hi Kenneth,

Thanks for your explanation. Looks like I will need to get a gigabit router. I may consider a dual band router as well so that I could have separate band for ipad and iphone. I thought my old 108j slow transfer rate was due to the NAS itself but it is actually the router that is the bottleneck.
